The Mbudzi Interchange in Harare is finally taking shape. The government has just opened the Masvingo Road-Glen Norah loop, which will provide a much-needed route for vehicles coming from the southern parts of the city.
This milestone marks significant progress in the project, with Transport Minister Felix Mhona announcing that construction is now 74% complete.
“The opening of this road shows the gigantic project is progressing very well. This road is going to decongest the detours that people have been using,” he said.
“Yes, it has been a painful process for citizens, especially those who stay around this place because they have been inconvenienced. They should exercise patience since it is a passing phase.”
However, Minister Mhona explained that work was delayed due to resources being diverted to prepare for the Sadc summit and to deal with court cases filed by property owners.
Despite these setbacks, the project is still on track to be completed by the end of this year.
The Mbudzi Interchange is a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the area. Once completed, it will feature a three-tier grade-separated intersection with 13 major bridge structures, 14 approach roads, and a diversion route.
The project has been valued at $88 million and is expected to alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, and enhance the overall commuting experience for motorists
