Preparations for the 44th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit are nearing completion, with road contractors having completed 95% of the 200 kilometers of roads earmarked for construction and rehabilitation in Harare.
As part of the preparations for the mega-regional event, road construction and rehabilitation work has been visible throughout greater Harare.
Out of the 200 kilometers of the road network identified for upgrading, contractors have finished 95% of the work to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the summit.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Fredrick Shava, has expressed confidence that the country has the capacity to host a successful event.
The Minister noted that the progress on the ground confirms Zimbabwe’s preparedness to welcome SADC leaders and other dignitaries from across the region.
In addition to the road construction, other preparations are underway for the SADC Industrialisation Week, which will precede the summit.
Over 150 exhibitors are expected to participate in the event, while a public lecture will be held at the University of Zimbabwe.
