A brazen robbery occurred at Appex Energies Service Station in Sakubva, where two masked gunmen stormed the premises, assaulting a petrol attendant and a security guard before making off with $8,100.
According to media reports, the robbers, wearing balaclavas, used explosives to break into the safe and access the cash. They then locked the two victims in the office and escaped.
The incident happened on Monday at 2am.
Police have confirmed the incident and are investigating.
The victims, Lyson Chiruka (27) and Delight Zamba (23), were treated for their injuri3s. The authorities are working to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
“Mr Zamba was manning the service station premises when the two armed robbers, brandishing pistols approached him at around 2am. They were clad in balaclavas, and one of them pointed a pistol, and threatened to gun down the security guard.
One of the armed robbers ass@ulted Mr Zamba several times on the legs using a crowbar. He searched the guard’s pockets and retrieved handcuffs which he used to handcuff him. He dragged the guard to the service station office that was being manned by Mr Chiruka. Mr Zamba was ordered to knock the office door to avoid suspicion.
“The armed robbers barged into the office when the door was opened, and demanded the safe keys. They ordered Mr Chiruka to lie down, thre@tening to blow his head off.
The criminals used a crowbar to open the door of a room leading to the safe. They blew open the safe using unknown explosive before ste@ling US$8 100, and locking Mr Zamba and Mr Chiruka in the room. They vanished from the crime scene,” he said.
