Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated in a statement that two armed robbery suspects were k!lled in a firefight with detectives in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The two were identified by Nyathi as Bongani Tshuma, 41, and Aleck Moyo, 37. Police spokesman: CID Homicide Bulawayo detectives responded to tips that wanted individuals had taken up residence “in a bushy area between Mpilo Hospital and Richmond, Bulawayo in an attempt to evade arrest,” according to the police spokesperson.
“The detectives acted on the information and conducted a raid at the area. The suspects began to fire at the detectives leading to a shoot-out,” Nyathi said.
“Subsequently, the suspects were overpowered leading to the recovery of a Cannic pistol with a magazine of four rounds and an Astra Revolver with two rounds.
“The suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals where they di3d upon admission.”
Nyathi claims that the suspects are connected to five incidents of armed robbery that took place this year between March 6 and July 29.
In Phatalika Village, Nyangazonke Sunyetsen, on May 7, 2024, “household goods, a Honda CVR vehicle registration number AEA 9034 and Toyota Surf vehicle, registration number ABC 6251 were st0len,” according to one account of the robbery. After the event, police declared that they were getting closer to solving a robbery case.
The crime happened on July 29 in a woody area of old Nkulumane 12, Bulawayo, where three cell phones and a Honda Fit car with registration number ADX 7925 were taken.
Police pledged to do all it took to carry out severe measures against the numerous armed robberies that are occurring across the nation.
