A 20 year old commercial s3x worker, Thubelihle Makhabo from Magwegwe, Bulawayo, appeared in court on Wednesday, charged with theft after allegedly ste@ling US$540 from her client.
Makhabo was brought before magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa, where she denied the allegations, claiming that the money was a gift from the client.
The prosecution, however, alleged that Makhabo had agreed to provide s3xual services to the client for a fee, and that she failed to deliver on her promise.
According to the prosecution, the client had paid Makhabo $540 for her services, but when they went to consummate their agreement, Makhabo allegedly refused to honor her side of the deal. The client reported the matter to the police, leading to Makhabo’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.
The court heard that Makhabo had no prior convictions and was out on bail when the alleged theft occurred. The prosecution is seeking a conviction and a fine or imprisonment for Makhabo.
Makhabo’s defense lawyer, however, argued that there was no evidence to prove that the money was stolen and that the client was trying to extort money from his own client.
The magistrate remanded Makhabo in custody pending further investigations and ordered her to return to court on October 27 for trial.
