The South African Weather Service (Saws) issued two Yellow Level 2 warnings for different sections of the country on Monday.
The weather office also warned that scorching temperatures were likely to linger in several regions. Residents in the north-eastern sections of the Free State, the north-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, and the eastern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga should brace themselves for strong thunderstorms with copious lightning, says Saws.
The weather service has also issued a warning for strong, damaging gusts, hail, and heavy rain in these areas.
Saws has also predicted strong winds and wild waves for the area between Cape Agulhas and Alexandra Bay.
Meanwhile, scorching conditions will prevail in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the central and eastern regions of both the North West and Free State.
Saws predicted that places in northern and central South Africa would also be hot. “Heatwave conditions persist in the northern and central parts but temperatures are expected to dropout of the heatwave threshold in places in the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape as well as KZN” , a meteorologist stated.
Saws also cautioned that extremely high fire hazard conditions are forecast over the central and eastern sections of the Northern Cape, the central and western parts of the Free State, in areas over the North West, the northern and western parts of Gauteng, and the Western Bushveld and Valley.
