The Lady Sables, Zimbabwe’s women’s rugby team, are eager to make a strong comeback as they face Zambia in an international friendly match at Prince Edward School this Saturday.
Marking their return to the field after two years since their last appearance at the Africa Cup, the team is determined to put on a good performance under the guidance of newly-appointed head coach Lissy Wasarirevhu.
The upcoming match will cap off the Mwana Rugby Festival and will see a blend of experienced and young players taking the field.
As Coach Wasarirevhu aims to kick off her tenure with a positive outcome, the Lady Sables’ dedication and commitment to their sport will undoubtedly be on full display during this highly anticipated game.
New captain Chioniso Mashakada believes the team has moved on from the disastrous spell under coach Munya Mhonda where the Lady Sables lost four straight matches.
“We are excited to be back, it means so much for the girls to represent the nation. We will play our hearts out and we hope to put on a good show for the fans as we have worked hard. We have always cried for game time and now that we have a chance to play, we want to show what we can do,” she said.
The Battle of Zambezi will be the highlight of the last day at the Mwana Rugby Festival as the Lady Sables face Zambia at 2pm before the men’s sides square off two hours later.
