The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has scheduled an extraordinary summit in Harare from November 16 to 20 to address pressing regional issues.
According to Zimlive, as the current chair of SADC, Zimbabwe’s Information Minister, Jenfan Muswere, announced that the summit will also discuss recent political developments in the region, including Mozambique and Botswana’s elections and Namibia’s upcoming polls.
Mozambique’s post-election violence has resulted in at least 16 de@ths and 108 inj_ries, according to the Mozambique Medical Association (AMM).
Health services are struggling due to the pressure, with some units no longer providing essential services like outpatient care and child vaccinations.
The violence erupted after the National Electoral Commission announced Daniel Chapo’s victory with 70.67% of the vote. Venâncio Mondlane, who came second with 20.32%, disputes the results and has called for demonstrations and a general strike.
The situation has escalated into clashes between protesters and police, with reports of tear gas and firearms being used.
The summit provides an opportunity for SADC member states to collectively address these pressing issues and work towards finding solutions to promote regional peace and stability.
