A delegation from countries in the SADC region who are attending the 7th SADC Industrialisation Week in Harare, has toured the Dinson Iron and Steel Company in Manhize, Midlands Province.
The SADC Industrialization week which started on July 28 and ended on August 02 2024, runs under the theme “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialised SADC.”
According to the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mangaliso Ndlovu, SADC member state toured 13 companies of their preference, with Disco being one of them. The US$1,5 billion steel plant in Manhize commenced production of pig iron last month.
“There are 13 companies that will be toured depending on the delegates’ area of interest, and the Disco Manhize plant is one of the companies being toured,” said Minister Ndlovu.
Dinson is scheduled to produce 600 000 tonnes of steel in the first phase, which would rise to 1,2 million tonnes in the second phase.
Output at the steel plant is expected to rise to 3,2 million tonnes in the third phase and ultimately 5 million tonnes annually in the final phase supplying a wide range of products to the Zimbabwean Industry with direct employment figures at the project reaching 10 000.
