A 36-year-old serial r@pist and robber, Chrispen Bonda, who terrorized residents in Harare’s Rugare and Glen View high-density suburbs between November 2022 and December last year, has been sentenced to 85 years in prison.
Regional Magistrate Clever Tsikwa convicted Bonda on eleven counts of r@pe and robbery, after he was initially facing over 30 counts.
The magistrate’s ruling brings an end to the reign of terror caused by Bonda, who had been preying on vulnerable women and girls in the area.
According to reports, Bonda would target his victims, mostly at night, and use vi0lence and intimidation to commit the heinous crimes. His modus operandi involved breaking into homes, robbing his victims of their valuables, and then r_ping them.
The court heard that Bonda’s reign of terror had left many residents living in fear, with some victims even considering relocating from the area to escape his clutches.
Bonda will now spend the next 85 years behind bars, giving hope to his victims that justice has finally been served. The sentence is seen as a strong deterrent against similar crimes in the future.
The police have hailed the conviction as a major breakthrough in their efforts to combat s3xual vi0lence and theft in the country.
The authorities have also commended the bravery of the victims who came forward to report the crimes, saying their courage has helped to bring a predator like Bonda to justice.
