Authorities in the capital of Congo reported on Sunday that a stampede at a music concert resulted in nine fatalities and numerous injur!es.
According to Kinshasa Governor Daniel Bumba, the rush happened on Saturday at the 80,000-seat Stade des Martyrs stadium in the city’s center, where famed Congolese gospel musician Mike Kalambayi was playing.
Nine people were reportedly K!lled in the turmoil, according to state broadcaster RTNC, while some of the !njured were admitted to intensive care.
Authorities said an inquiry was underway but did not remark on what triggered the stampede. On the other hand, the event’s local music management group claimed that chaos broke out when “the security services tried to neutralise some troublemakers.”

The performance included a number of other performers and pastors, and an estimated 30,000 people attended, according to a statement from the management organization Maajabu Gospel.
Large crowds gathered outside the stadium in front of barricades as they waited to enter, according to videos that appeared to be from the scene and broadcast of the event.
People were seen running to the center stage inside. Such stampedes have occurred in the Congo in the past, and they are frequently attributed to inadequate crowd management techniques such the overuse of force.
During a music event at the same stadium in October of last year, a similar crush claimed the lives of eleven individuals.
