President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inadvertent revelations at the recent wedding of Deputy Constantino Chiwenga have sparked controversy in Zimbabwe, shedding light on an alleged clandestine affair during Chiwenga’s previous marriage to Marry Mubaiwa.
During the high-profile ceremony, Mnangagwa, in a surprising turn, hinted at intimate knowledge of the couple’s past, stating, “I know too much about these two since my time as their Defence Minister.” His remarks inadvertently unveiled a tangled web of relationships.
Chiwenga, now in his third marriage within a span of 12 years, had a tumultuous marital history. He was previously wedded to Jocelyn Jacobsen, with their marriage ending in divorce in 2012. His subsequent union with Mubaiwa spanned from 2011 to 2019, resulting in three children.
At the wedding, President Mnangagwa, resembling a relative blurting out long-held family secrets, cryptically suggested awareness of Chiwenga and his new spouse’s involvement during his tenure as Defence Minister between 2009 and 201.
“I know too much about these two since my time as their defence minister. I for one know too much about the two people but this is not the platform to say it all.
“The two have travelled a long journey together. My young brother (Chiwenga) may not know that I knew what was happening even when I was the Minister of Defence.
“I am exceedingly happy that it has come to this conclusion, God bless you. I am extremely proud of my young brother Dominic Chiwenga. We have worked together for about 46 years since the liberation struggle,” as per Zimlive. The event drew prominent figures, including former President Robert Mugabe’s widow, Grace. Mnangagwa extended a warm welcome to her, urging her continued involvement in their collective journey forward.
First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, VP Kembo Mohadi, and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
Amidst the political stir, the wedding showcased opulence and grandeur. The bridal party comprised army generals from neighbouring countries, adding an international touch to the ceremony.
Songstress Feli Nandi’s enchanting performance accompanied the couple’s first dance, adding a touch of glamour to the affair.
The matrimonial festivities continued at the lavish Venue Umwinzii, an upscale locale in Harare’s Umwinsidale area, where the celebration unfolded in extravagant style.
The inadvertent unveiling of Chiwenga’s past entanglements has created ripples in Zimbabwean political circles, underscoring the intertwined nature of personal lives and public personas.
