Today’s startling news reveals that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is poised to receive ballot boxes that were reportedly dumped this morning in Pietermaritzburg.
The truck carrying these Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) ballot boxes was allegedly en route to disposal.
It is important to note that the elections were officially declared free and fair.
In the election results, the African National Congress (ANC), which has governed South Africa for 30 years, garnered 40.21% of the vote, marking a significant decline from its 57.5% tally in the previous national election held in 2019.
The official opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA), maintained its support with 21.80% of the vote, followed by the uMkhonto weSizwe party at 14.60%, displacing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to the fourth position with 9.48% of the vote.
The general elections in South Africa, conducted on 29 May 2024, aimed to elect a new National Assembly and provincial legislatures across all nine provinces.
