Political activist Job Sikhala has criticised the judicial handling of the case involving businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu.
A video circulating during their court appearance suggests they have been released.
In a recent statement on his Job Sikhala X handle, Sikhala condemned the swift handling of their case, accusing authorities of focusing on what he called “baseless political charges” against him instead of holding accountable those accused of misappropriating public funds.
He expressed confidence that such practices would soon be halted.
Meanwhile, the ruling on Mpofu and Chimombe’s case has been postponed to June 27th as they remain in custody.
They face charges under the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act, with allegations from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission stating they received US$40 million for a goat supply contract but failed to fulfill it as agreed.
However, Mpofu’s company disputed the allegations, stating they were paid only US$4 million (RTGS1.6 billion).
