Opposition politician Job Sikhala has distanced himself from a fraudulent account advocating for a national strike on May 25.
Sikhala stated that this was a tactic employed by the government to return him to prison.
A post circulating alleged that Sikhala had initiated a countrywide protest to coincide with Africa Day.
Sikhala addressed this on social media platform X, asserting, “The purpose of the post is to falsely depict me as advocating for chaos, providing them with grounds for my arrest.”
He clarified, “I unequivocally disassociate myself from the statement attributed to this imposter using my identity.”
Sikhala endured 595 days in remand prison under charges of inciting violence and obstructing justice, stemming from unrest at the funeral of the late Citizens Coalition for Change activist Moreblessing Ali.
Released in January this year, Sikhala affirmed, “I have no intentions or plans to instigate any actions.”
He criticized the state’s pursuit, stating, “The government still revels in the baseless conviction they secured against me, based on a nonexistent law regarding a post from a fictitious Facebook account, which they failed to prove was mine.”
Sikhala further commented, “Numerous individuals have fallen victim to fabricated accounts managed by state agencies and Varakashi, tarnishing their reputations. This is an act of desperation.”
