On Thursday, China confirmed that a minimum of six of its nationals had succumbed to a de@dly att@ck by armed militiamen in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ass@ult, which occurred on Wednesday at a mining site linked to Chinese interests in the gold-rich Ituri province, has also left several Chinese citizens unaccounted for.
Beijing’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, vehemently condemned the incident during a regular press briefing, urging the DRC authorities to swiftly apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Mao also emphasised the need for the DRC to bolster security measures to safeguard Chinese citizens and businesses in the region.

This incident is not an isolated one, as att@cks on mining sites and convoys are frequent in northeastern DRC, with Chinese nationals having been affected in the past.
In response, China has reiterated its warning to its citizens to exercise caution and adhere to foreign ministry security advisories, avoiding travel to high-risk areas whenever possible.
