Sixteen students at Monozi Primary School in Mbire district were unable to take the Grade Seven exams last week because they are pregnant, a result of early child marriages.
This information was shared by a teacher during a meeting about services aimed at addressing these issues at the school.

The teacher, who prefers to stay anonymous, reported that cases of school dropouts are increasing. “We send monthly updates about students who leave school to the district. Sixteen Grade Seven girls couldn’t take their exams, and their parents seem unconcerned about their education,” the teacher said.
Ms. Rudo Chidembo, the village head of Chipita, noted that early marriages and teenage pregnancies are common in the area. She believes the new services offered will help combat these problems. “It’s painful to see girls missing their final exams because they are pregnant,” she said after speaking to Herald.
