A dark cloud has loomed over the Rusanga family of Sakubva suburb in Mutare as they grapple with strange !llnesses, mysterious d3aths, and troubling events that seem to stem from an avenging sp!r1t known as ngozi.
This family drama has escalated into a bitter feud, leading to tensions and accusations that threaten to tear them apart.
At the center of this upheaval is Loveness Samuponda, the widow of the late Norman Rusanga.
In her desperate search for answers, she has turned to her late husband’s brother, Shepherd Rusanga, hoping he can help unravel the supernatural chaos that has plagued their family since Norman’s passing.
The situation has become so dire that it has drawn the attention of Headman Chigodora’s community court.
The Rusanga family has faced a series of tragic losses. Out of Norman’s seventeen children, three have d!ed under unexplained circumstances.
Disturbingly, three others have been afflicted with episodes resembling epilepsy, suffering from violent seizures and alarming night terrors. Loveness firmly believes that these afflictions are the result of Mushonga’s spirit seeking vengeance for a historical wrong.
In September, Loveness summoned Shepherd and several relatives — Oscar, Cleopas, Tawona, Rudolf, and Charles to the court in a bid to compel them to join her in consulting traditional healers.
Her most pressing concern is her daughter Letwin, who exhibits alarming symptoms that Loveness attributes to the malevolent spirit.
“At first, we thought Letwin was simply having seizures,” Loveness explained to the court as reported by Manica Post. “But it soon became clear that something more sinister was at play.
Letwin has been talking in her sleep, claiming that Mushonga’s sp!r!t is tormenting her because my brother-in-law, Shepherd, killed him in Gokwe.” She added that her niece Tawona is experiencing similar distress, deepening the family’s fears.

Shepherd Rusanga, however, staunchly denies any responsibility for the tragedies besetting his brother’s family. He insists that he and the other relatives sought the help of a traditional healer, Sekuru Mutsvairo, in Marondera, as instructed by Headman Chigodora. “The healer cleared me of any involvement in these misfortunes and exposed the true source of the problem,” Shepherd stated confidently.
While recounting his experience at the healing session, Shepherd described an alarming incident where a snake allegedly slithered from Loveness’s waist during the consultation, an occurrence that many interpreted as evidence that she was hiding something crucial.
“It was evident that she had been concealing information,” he declared. “The healer humiliated her in front of everyone. I have my own charms, but they’re solely for protecting my family and business; I have not caused any harm.”
Shepherd went on to explain that the late Norman had made it clear to the family before his d3ath that they needed to sell his garage in Gokwe and use the funds to compensate Mushonga’s family. “Norman was very specific; he said selling the garage was the only way to restore peace to our family,” Shepherd noted, expressing frustration that this crucial task has yet to be fulfilled.
“Every day, the spirit continues to wreak havoc on our family because that promise has not been kept,” he added. Shepherd claims he is working diligently to gather $9,000 to appease the spirit, but he faces resistance from family members, especially Loveness.
Loveness remains skeptical of Shepherd’s claims, accusing him of employing charms to evade the truth during their visit to Sekuru Mutsvairo. “I believe the avenging spirit demands compensation in the form of cattle and money, and I hold the Rusanga family accountable for their inaction,” she declared. “When I reached out for help, they brushed me off and left me to fight this battle on my own. Now, Tawona, my sister’s son, is starting to show the same symptoms. This spirit is unyielding and will not rest until it gets what it demands.”
