A shocking incident has rocked Pfupi Village in Buhera, Manicaland, as a 20-year-old man, Fadzai Mhuka, is accused of stabbing his mother, Daina Mhlanga, to death in a suspected psychotic episode linked to prolonged drug abuse.
The horrific incident occurred on Monday at around 11:30 AM, while Mhlanga was having breakfast with her 9-year-old nephew, Kelvin Mhuka. According to eyewitnesses, Mhuka entered the dining room, singing ominously, before attacking his mother with a knife.
The young nephew, realizing the danger, fled the scene and alerted neighbors, who rushed to the house and found Mhlanga lying in a pool of blood through a window. Despite efforts to save her, Mhlanga was pronounced dead on arrival at Birchenough Bridge Hospital, with severe stab wounds to her chest and finger.
The police have taken Mhuka into custody, and investigations are ongoing. The case has sparked renewed calls for urgent action to address the growing mental health crisis and substance abuse among Zimbabwe’s youth.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, authorities are urging families to report erratic behavior early and seek medical help before it’s too late.
