In a distressing case of domestic vi0lence, a 23-year-old man from Mncedisi Village, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru, was brought before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court after as$aulting his mother.
The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, when the accused returned home intoxicated and launched a verbal @ttack on his mother, accusing her of harboring hatred towards his wife.
In a fit of rage, he made vi0lent threats, including a chilling declaration to decapitate her, leading to a physical confrontation that resulted in severe physical harm.
During the as_ault, the accused struck his mother multiple times with an iron rod, hitting her on the left eye and forehead, and landing several blows across her body, demonstrating a complete disregard for her well-being.
As the situation escalated, he stripped her of her clothing in an attempt to further humiliate her when she attempted to flee the scene.
The complainant, fearing for her life, screamed for help, prompting neighbors to intervene and rescue her from further viol3nce.
Medical reports indicated that the mother sustained notable inj_ries, including a cut on her forehead and significant swelling around her left eye, which highlighted the severity of the att@ck.
Following the evidence presented in court, the accused was found guilty of domestic viol3nce and was remanded in custody pending sentencing on December 3, 2024.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has since urged the public to reject violent behaviors in their homes, advocating for peaceful resolutions and the involvement of mediation services when disputes arise.
