In the early stages of the 2024 South African elections, Jacob Zuma’s newly formed MK Party has shown significant gains in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), particularly in rural areas, surpassing the historically dominant African National Congress (ANC).
With a small percentage of votes counted, the MK Party has garnered more than double the votes of the ANC in some areas, indicating a shift in the political landscape of the province.
However, the African National Congress (ANC) remains ahead nationally with 501,760 votes, followed by the DA with 309,108 votes and the EFF with 99,323 votes. The MK Party has 92,905 votes nationally.
The African National Congress (ANC) is projected to lose its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years.
The elections are described as the most contested since the ANC came to power, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with its governance.
