Students thump Miracle Boys

Herentals . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(1) 4

Yadah . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . .0

HERENTALS FC recorded their biggest victory in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a four-nil thumping of Yadah FC at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

A brace by Davison Marowa and a goal apiece from Blessing Majarira and a second-half John Zhuwawo shot was enough for the Students to collect maximum points against the Miracle Boys.

With Yadah still in the relegation matrix with 30 points, coach Takaendesa Jongwe had few words to describe the dismal display by his charges though he remains confident of surviving the chop.

“It was a bad day in office, a terrible day for us. We exhibited the worst product from Yadah Stars and I take the blame for what happened but we are convinced that we will retain our Premiership status come end of year,” said Jongwe.

Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva the Herentals coach could not hide his joy on beating their arch rivals while in the process recording his biggest Premiership victory.

“Yadah have always given us problems, and I am happy with this result and for us to get so many goals, it brings confidence to the team,” Mutiwekuziva.

He revealed that his charges are looking at finishing in the top four.

“We are aiming a strong finish and be among the best four teams this season and with such results I do not see what will stop us,” the Herentals gaffer.

The match started off on a low note with the battle between the two sides being restricted to the middle of the park and neither side created any meaningful scoring opportunities in the opening stages of the match.

Despite the match being a bit balanced affair, Yadah were a better team going forward and could have booked the lead inside the opening half hour had Junior Zindoga been clinical in front of goal.

Herentals were to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Marowa came from the blind side to tap in a Milton Chimedza cross to give the students the lead.

The goal brought a bit of urgency into the match and Zindoga with his first shot on target being tipped for a cornerkick by Takudzwa Chikosi in goal for Herentals.

Herentals could have gone to the break with a two-goal advantage when Blessing Majarira failed to connect a Marowa cross a minute into added time of the first half.

Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was to make a tactical substitution at the start of the second-half bringing Tafadzwa Jim for Innocent Benza.

The substitution was to pay dividends in three minutes after the break when Jim broke loose on the right flank sending in a low cross into the Yadah penalty box.

The cross was well received by Marowa who kept his composure and slotted with ease to get his brace of the afternoon.

Herentals increased their lead to three goals with 15 minutes to go as another second half substitute John Zhuwawo had his name on the scoresheet after heading in a Godfrey Mukamba cornerkick.

Yadah’s final nail on the coffin came four minutes before full time when Majarira found himself in the right position at the right time scoring at close range after

Panashe Nyabunga failed to parry away a Jim cross.
