Magistrate Constance Mutandwa has handed down a sentence of 12 months in prison to 24-year-old Tonderai Mupindu for the @ssault of his 45-year-old girlfriend, Anna Fadzai Katoma.
This verdict comes in the wake of a violent incident that occurred on September 3, 2024, following a string of heated confrontations linked to Mupindu alleging that Katoma had been unfaithful.
The trouble began early that morning when Mupindu found Katoma in bed with his friend, Vitalis Masamha. After this discovery, Mupindu left the scene but later encountered the couple again at Munandishi Business Centre, specifically at a venue known as Penny Beer Hall.
This repeated sighting seems to have fueled Mupindu’s anger and prompted him to confront Katoma later that evening at her homestead.
During this confrontation, Mupindu demanded answers regarding her alleged affair with Masamha. When Katoma denied such claims, Mupindu’s frustration escalated into a physical @ttack.
He @ssaulted her using his fists, which resulted in visible injuries to Katoma, including swelling on her face and bruises around her left ear and eye.
Following the violence, Katoma took the brave step of reporting the ass@ult to law enforcement, which led to Mupindu’s arrest.
As the prosecutor in the case, Simbarashe Hwacha provided compelling evidence of the @ssault and the physical harm inflicted on Katoma.
In her sentencing, Magistrate Mutandwa underlined the gravity of domestic violence, stressing the need for perpetrators to face repercussions for their actions.
