The Sungura music scene is abuzz with debate as fans compare and contrast the latest offerings from two of the genre’s biggest names: Alick Macheso and Mark Ngwazi.
Macheso, known as the “Godfather of Sungura,” recently released his 13th album, “Kupa Kuturika,” to great fanfare.
However, not everyone is impressed, with some fans expressing disappointment and others drawing comparisons to Ngwazi’s seventh album, “Huzukwende.”
Ngwazi’s album has been praised for its polish and depth, with several tracks already making waves on local radio stations and in clubs.
But when a Facebook user named Cucsman Business Portal declared Ngwazi’s album the superior effort, the debate really heated up.

“Huzukwende is a well-polished project…we can’t compare it to Kupa Kuturika,” the user wrote, sparking a lively discussion about the merits of each album. While some fans have come to Macheso’s defense, others have echoed the sentiment that his latest effort doesn’t quite live up to expectations.
One user noted that Macheso’s vocal style may be changing with age, while another criticised the album’s production quality. Despite the criticism, Macheso remains a beloved figure in the Sungura scene, with many fans acknowledging his contributions to the genre and his enduring legacy.
As for Ngwazi, he’s being hailed as a rising star with a bright future ahead. One thing’s for sure – the debate is far from over, and fans will continue to weigh in on which album reigns supreme
