Zanu PF spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa has thrown shade at Kudakwashe Tagwirei, suggesting that the businessman isn’t ready for a senior leadership role in the party. Mutsvangwa thinks Tagwirei should start by learning the party’s ideology and history at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
Tagwirei recently attended a central committee meeting without being officially inducted as a member, sparking controversy. Mutsvangwa claims this shows “uninformed ambition” and a lack of understanding of the party’s principles and guidelines. The businessman has been accused of using his wealth and influence to try to force his way into top party positions.
“Whether it was for lack of proper advice from the Harare provincial leadership or personal ambition, he (Tagwirei) assumed it would be a headlong stampede,” Mutsvangwa said. “It was procedurally wrong and the constitution had to be read out to him that ‘you are not yet a member and that you are coming into an institution with principles and guidelines’.” Mutsvangwa believes Tagwirei should start at the party’s grassroots, rather than trying to parachute into top positions.
The controversy surrounding Tagwirei’s attempted induction has raised questions about his suitability for a senior leadership role in Zanu PF. As the party looks to the future, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s second term set to end in 2028, the question of who will succeed him remains a topic of speculation. Will Tagwirei heed Mutsvangwa’s advice and start learning the party’s ideology, or will he continue to pursue a top role?
