Despite finishing sixth in the 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Zimbabwean sprinter Tapiwanashe Makarawu is looking ahead with optimism and determination.
His performance has secured him a spot at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next year, keeping his competitive drive alive.
In the 200m final, Makarawu faced stiff competition from a talented field, with Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo claiming gold, and Americans Kenneth Bednarek and Noah Lyles finishing second and third, respectively. Despite falling short of his personal best, Makarawu won the admiration of Zimbabweans worldwide, who supported him throughout the high-stakes race.\

Looking forward, Makarawu is preparing for another chance to showcase his skills on the global stage next year. Reflecting on his Paris experience, he described the race as a “good experience,” noting it was both enjoyable and the most relaxed he has ever been in a competition.
