A 16-year-old boy from Tsholotsho community in Matabeleland North province has been arrested for the alleged r@pe of his 11-year-old niece.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda has confirmed that the teenager, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim, is currently assisting police with their investigation into the grave allegations.
Inspector Banda detailed the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on August 1 at around 11 a.m. At that time, the complainant’s grandmother had left the children in the care of the accused while she went to Tsholotsho Business Centre.
Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly instructed the young girl to clean her grandmother’s room, a request she complied with, exhibiting the trust that children often place in family members.
Unfortunately, after sending her off, he followed her into the room where he then s3xually assa_lted her.
The situation escalated when the victim’s sister entered the room, catching the accused in the act of assa_lting her sibling.
Recognizing the severity of what she witnessed, the sister chose to wait until their grandmother returned home to inform her of the incident.
Upon hearing the distressing news, the grandmother promptly alerted the authorities, resulting in the swift arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
Following the incident, the victim was taken to Tsholotsho District Hospital for a medical examination to assess her physical and mental well-being and to gather further evidence regarding the ass_ult.
