A teenage gang accused of unleashing violence on Christon Bank residents faced m_rder charges in court yesterday.
Nelson Mugada, 18, Calvin Furusa, also 18, and a 15-year-old boy (name withheld due to age) were arrested for allegedly k_lling Charles Sanudi.
According to prosecutors, the group had been chasing and threatening Tatenda Mapurani. Seeking help, Mapurani went to Sanudi’s home.
However, when Sanudi intervened to protect Mapurani, the gang attacked him as well. They allegedly st_bbed Sanudi twice in the leg and once in the neck with a knife, taking his life at the scene.
Mugada in particular is no stranger to such charges – he already had a pending April m_rder case, wherein police say he intends to plead guilty. The trio along with other accomplices still at large have reportedly terrorized Christon Bank and Lowdale using knives, machetes and axes.
Appearing before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi, the members of the so-called “teenage gang” were denied bail. The state argued they posed a flight risk and had pending cases, while noting Mugada and the 15-year-old lacked fixed addresses.
For now, the alleged terrorizers of the community will remain behind bars as their case continues to unfold in court.
