Former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has joined the race to lead Zimbabwe’s football governing body, ZIFA, as the presidential elections approach in January next year. Citing his extensive administrative experience and expertise, Mliswa expressed confidence in his ability to steer the association toward success.
Mliswa has already begun his campaign efforts by sponsoring a group of football fans, journalists, and ZIFA councillors on a trip to Polokwane to watch the Warriors’ African Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
Addressing journalists, Mliswa emphasized the need for a leader with strong administrative capabilities to revive the organization.
“ZIFA is not looking for someone with wealth or fortune. The association needs a competent leader to unlock the potential that already exists,” he said.
As part of his campaign, Mliswa pledged to uphold transparency and accountability, values he believes are critical for attracting sponsorships and restoring confidence in ZIFA.
“We need accountability. The world knows I am not associated with corruption and that I value transparency. Companies want to invest where there is trust and clear financial reporting. Publishing financial statements is essential to secure funding,” he stated.
Mliswa will face stiff competition from prominent contenders, including Yadah Stars owner Walter Magaya, Farai Jere, Wangu Mazodze, and UK-based football administrator Marshall Gore.
