Zimbabwean mixed martial artist Themba Gorimbo has found himself at the center of a social media storm after making controversial comments about multi-award winning dancehall musician Winky D.
Gorimbo sparked outrage when he compared himself to Winky D, claiming that he is an international artist while Winky D is only popular locally.
He also boasted about having more Facebook followers than the musician.
However, Gorimbo’s attempt to flex his online presence backfired, and he faced a backlash from Winky D’s fans.
The fans took to social media to defend their favorite artist, with some even predicting that Gorimbo would lose his next match.
Gorimbo tried to salvage the situation by claiming that his account was hacked and that he did not make the posts. This is not the first time Gorimbo has found himself in hot water on social media.

He also made comments about comedian Madam Boss’s accent, which did not sit well with her fans. Many are now calling for Gorimbo to focus more on his career and less on social media.
“He needs to learn from other established athletes and stay focused on his training,” said one fan. “His lack of professionalism is not doing his career any good.”
Gorimbo has since deactivated his Facebook account, but the damage may already be done. Only time will tell if he can recover from this public relations blow.
