A French animal rights advocate is stirring controversy with his call to spare mosquitoes, claiming that these insects are simply trying to nurture their offspring by feeding on human blood.
Aymeric Caron, a well-known television presenter, emphasizes the importance of viewing mosquitoes through a compassionate lens.
He argues that every time a mosquito bites, it is not merely seeking a meal but rather gathering protein needed for its eggs.
According to Caron, swatting a mosquito equates to @tt@cking a mother on a quest to care for her children.
In a recent video, Caron stated, “Donating blood occasionally to a creature that is merely fulfilling its parental duties shouldn’t be considered a tragedy.”

He identifies as an anti-speciesist, advocating for equality among all living beings. Caron adds that he willingly allows himself to be bitten by mosquitoes—except in regions like Africa, where diseases such as malaria pose significant health risks.
However, his stance has faced backlash from animal welfare groups in the UK, who argue that his perspective is “excessive” and “a misguided distraction” from more pressing wildlife concerns.
They emphasize the need to prioritize human health and safety in discussions about mosquitoes.
As a practical alternative, Caron recommends using natural repellents, such as citronella and lavender oil, along with personal hygiene practices to deter mosquitoes, rather than resorting to extermination.
