A TRIBE Called Zimbabwe has successfully brought to life a stunning recreation of a Shona maiden’s attire from the late 1800s. Inspired by a vintage photograph, the team crafted a modern interpretation of the traditional outfit, blending ancient materials and techniques with contemporary flair.
The “Chiedza, the Shona Dress” is a masterpiece of luxury tribal fashion. The outfit features Zimbabwean leather and cowhide, intricate beadwork and jewelry, ostrich eggshell ornaments, and cowry shells and premium materials. Tariro Zinyemba, the model, embodies the essence of Zimbabwean heritage, showcasing the team’s attention to detail and commitment to authenticity.
The team’s reimagination of the traditional outfit for the modern era resulted in a breathtaking fusion of past and present. By incorporating modern techniques and materials while staying true to the essence of Zimbabwean culture, they created a truly regal and stunning piece.
The making of “Chiedza” required many hours of meticulous craftsmanship, featuring real hand-painted ostrich shells and cowries, premium cowhide leather, and exquisite detail.
