A family from Makoni has found itself ensnared in a web of confusion and fear surrounding mysterious goblins.
This predicament began when their mother, seeking relief from persistent chest pains and hoping for a remedy for her daughter’s inability to conceive, turned to a controversial traditional healer based in Nyanga.
Unbeknownst to her, this healer was known for his dubious practices, particularly for peddling charms that promise wealth but often lead to troubling consequences.
The issues came to light during a recent hearing held at Chief Makoni’s community court. Loveness Mucherera, the mother at the center of the ordeal, had brought her son, Samuel Rudzinde, before the court.
Reports say she @ccused him of labeling her as a w!tch and selling off family cattle to settle debts owed to the traditional healer, who now demands a staggering sum of $12,000, five cattle, five goats, and a rooster to reverse the curse and restore harmony to their lives.
Loveness shared her grievances with the court, revealing a tumultuous relationship with her son.
“Samuel has been troubling me for a long time,” she explained. “He sold three of my cattle, claiming they belonged to his deceased father. He’s not only sold my stove and mat but has also physically @ss@ulted me on occasions. I’ve kept quiet about the pain he causes me.”
She continued, recounting how her son had spread rumors, telling relatives that she was using w!tchcraft against him. “He even went so far as to accuse me of wanting to harm his child, for whom I’m paying school fees. To add to the chaos, he assaulted his younger sister and has coerced others into believing in this witchcraft nonsense. While I was visiting my daughters, he took my possessions, including seeds and eggs. He’s convinced that I acquired charms that are wreaking havoc on his children’s lives,” Loveness detailed.
In his testimony, Samuel backed up his accusations, claiming that their mother’s actions had drawn unwanted spirits into their lives. “She went to a traditional healer who told her she had unknowingly combined his medicine with that from another healer, creating the turmoil we now face,” he explained. “Since I work away from home, I relied on family members to keep me informed about the situation.”

He shared how their family attempted to appease the traditional healer, raising $300 for transportation and consultation to seek help. Despite the difficulties, Samuel’s mother confessed that she had knowingly encountered the healer and that she failed to follow his instructions, which ultimately led to the curse impacting their family. During a visit to the healer’s home, it was revealed that her actions had consequences: “The healer claimed that the goblins he had given her had now grown and were causing strife among us,” he said, noting that she acknowledged her mistakes and pleaded for forgiveness.
Feeling the weight of her situation, Loveness begged for a reduction in the hefty fine imposed but struggled to explain how she would gather that kind of money, especially since the family estate in Rusape would not be sold to cover these costs.
As the court assessed the complexity of the case, they raised concerns about the traditional healer’s practices. They described his conduct as unethical and extortionate, citing similar accounts where he provided clients with harmful charms while withholding the full truth, later demanding exorbitant fees to undo the damage.
Ultimately, in an effort to resolve the issues plaguing the Mucherera family, they were referred to the court’s resident traditional healer. This healer affirmed that Loveness had indeed obtained charms that were now creating a hostile environment within their family dynamics. “You have dealt with an untrustworthy traditional healer,” he said. “We’ve encountered many cases like this where he deceives clients, only to return later with outrageous fees to reclaim his harmful charms. I advise the family to negotiate with him for the return of these items.”
