In a devastating incident that unfolded in Zvishavane, a makeshift house was engulfed in flames, resulting in the tragic death of a 9-month-old baby.
The incident occurred on August 15, 2023, around 1 PM in the Mandava suburb, leaving two others injured.
According to Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the mother of the deceased baby had briefly left the house to take a bath, leaving her 3-year-old son playing and the infant asleep.It was during this time that a neighbor alerted her to the fire. Inspector Mahoko stated,
“The deceased’s mother went to take a bath leaving her 3-year-old son playing and the 9-month-old infant sleeping. Suddenly, the woman was informed by a neighbor that her house was on fire.”
The mother, along with the help of neighbors, managed to extinguish the flames, but tragically, the baby had already succumbed to the fire-related injuries.
