The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released a statement regarding a tragic road traffic accident that occurred on October 23, 2024, at approximately 1100 hours, at the 171-kilometer peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road.
The accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left nine others inj_red, highlighting the perilous nature of road travel in the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of a Toyota Fortuner, which was traveling without passengers, attempted to overtake a motorcycle.
In a devastating turn of events, this maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit that was carrying eight passengers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the force of the impact was severe, causing considerable damage to both vehicles and raising concerns about the adherence to road safety regulations.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and secure the area, while the bodies of the deceased were subsequently transported to the mortuary at Karoi Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The inj_red individuals were admitted to the same hospital, where they are receiving medical care for their various injur!es, some of which are reported to be serious.
