The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on July 28 2024, at approximately 1:30 PM. The accident took place at the 134-kilometre peg along the busy Mutare-Masvingo Road, a route frequently used by both passenger and commercial vehicles.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a Mitsubishi Colt vehicle lost control and veered off the road. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the vehicle’s front right tyre burst, which likely led to the driver losing control of the car.
The vehicle subsequently overturned before eventually landing back on its wheels. Despite the swift response from emergency services, three individuals lost their lives in the tragic incident.
The deceased, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were pronounced d3ad at the scene. Their bodies were later transported to the Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are to be conducted.
Additionally, nine other passengers in the vehicle suffered various degrees of injur!es and are currently being treated at the same hospital. Medical staff are working diligently to provide care to the !njured individuals, some of whom are reported to be in serious condition.
