In a heartbreaking incident that has left the driving community in mourning, a Durban-based truck driver named Leon Munhukwaye lost his life in a tragic accident on Wednesday.
The unfortunate event unfolded on the N1 road, approximately 30 kilometers from Colensburg, as Munhukwaye navigated the stretch towards Cape Town.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred around 5:00 PM when Leon, at the age of 43, was overtaken by another truck.
The driver of the other vehicle reportedly lost control, forcing Munhukwaye off the road, leading to a devastating crash.
Eyewitness accounts paint a picture of a chaotic scene, emphasizing the suddenness of the incident that took Leon’s life almost immediately.
Paramedics arrived promptly but were unable to revive him.

A heartfelt post in the Zimbabwean Professional Drivers group on Facebook expressed the collective sorrow of those who knew him: “We are deeply saddened, guys. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our legends, Leon Munhukwaye, a former driver with EX GDC and Burious Investments. He was working for an Indian company while living in Durban. May his soul rest in peace. This accident happened 30 km to Colensburg on the N1 road to Cape Town.”
