Yesterday, Masvingo police officers arrested two Citizens Coalition for Change [CCC] aspiring members of parliament: Advocate Martin Mureri and Mr Pedzisai Gasva.
Advocate Martin Mureri is a CCC aspiring member of parliament in Masvingo urban, and Mr Pedzisai Gasva will represent CCC in Masvingo West as a parliamentary candidate.
Advocate Mureri and Mr Gasva were campaigning door to door and using vehicles.
The police arrested them for “making noise.”
The two parliamentary candidates were charged with criminal nuisance and each paid a fine of $30 USD.
Interestingly, Zanu PF Masvingo urban aspiring member of parliament Mr Mahwende and Zanu PF aspiring member of parliament Mr Ezra Chadzamira are campaigning using road show and door-to-door methods, but the police have never arrested them.
Last week, the police in Masvingo also disrupted the CCC Masvingo urban campaign, citing the reason that CCC did not seek police clearance.
However, Zanu PF in Masvingo is holding many rallies without any police clearance.
Police ill-treatment against the CCC party in Masvingo province has reached alarming levels.
In Masvingo Province, CCC rallies in Chiredzi, Chikombedzi, Chivi, Zaka, and Bikita were either disrupted or banned by the police.
In Chiredzi, the police fired tear gas to disperse CCC members after denying them entrance to Tshovani stadium, where President Chamisa intended to address them.
As a result, 8 CCC Chiredzi members were arrested and are still languishing in remand prison.
In Gutu, 22 CCC members were brutally beaten and displaced by Zanu PF members after attending President Chamisa’s rally at Maungwa business centre, said Mr Hamandishe Gobvu, CCC Gutu South aspiring member of parliament.
Interestingly, the police refused to record CCC members’ reports against Zanu PF members.
It took many days for the police in Bikita South to open a case against Zanu PF aspiring member of parliament Mr Energy Mutodi.
Mutodi fired two gunshots towards CCC members who were at a rally at Baradzamwa Business Centre.
CCC member Mr John Mupanduki filed a police report against Mutodi.
CCC member Mr Simon Ziki condemned the police actions against CCC members in Masvingo.
The actions of the police against CCC during the campaign period disadvantage the CCC party.
