In a deeply unsettling incident that has rattled the Lord Malvern High School community, two young students, aged 14 and 15, have become victims of a horrifying assault that took place on their school premises. This disturbing event unfolded after a night of underage drinking, resulting in a harrowing experience for the victims.
Recently, two girls, one in Form 1 and the other in Form 2, were invited to the school’s football ground. They were told it was a casual gathering, but they were encouraged to drink alcohol and smoke.
As the night went on, the girls got drunk, and things took a dark turn. Two Form 2 boys, who should have been their peers and protectors, committed a serious crime against their fellow students.
Despite their fear and trauma, the victims found the strength to confide in their friends, who promptly reported the incident to school authorities. This led to the matter being officially reported to the Waterfalls Police Station.
Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the spokesperson for the Harare provincial police, expressed deep concern over the rising number of rape cases involving minors. He appealed to parents, guardians, religious leaders, and educators to exercise vigilance in safeguarding the well-being of children.
Inspector Chakanza remarked,
“We have observed with great concern an increasing number of rape cases involving minors. It is disheartening that some of the offenders are members of the clergy, relatives, and even neighbors. We urge religious leaders, teachers, parents, and guardians to be extremely vigilant in protecting the children under their care.”
This disturbing incident underscores the urgent need for heightened awareness and education concerning child protection, consent, and the severe consequences of criminal behaviour. In addition, schools, parents, and communities must collaborate to ensure the safety and security of our children.
As the investigation into this distressing case unfolds, it is imperative that justice is served and comprehensive support is extended to the victims on their path to recovery. The Lord Malvern High School community must unite to prevent the recurrence of such traumatic incidents and maintain schools as safe sanctuaries for all students.
In the wake of this appalling event, every individual is called upon to stand against such heinous acts.
