The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a kombi driver, Tinashe Madzima (31), and his conductor, Ishamel Gonyore, in connection with a viral video that captured police officers accepting bribes at the Mabvuku turn-off along the Harare-Mutare Road.
The arrests took place on November 6, 2024, at George Shopping Centre in Ruwa, following the identification of the suspects in the widely circulated footage.
The ongoing investigation revealed that Madzima, who was operating a Toyota Hiace kombi with the registration number ABZ 1395, was recorded approaching a police officer to offer a bribe, while Gonyore was seen attempting a similar act with their vehicle, ABZ 8264.
In an effort to combat corruption within the force, the ZRP has impounded both vehicles involved in the bribery incident.
This case has shone a light on the pervasive issue of bribery on the roads, prompting the police to take a firmer stance against such misconduct.
The ZRP has made it clear that they are actively pursuing other individuals implicated in this incident as part of their broader commitment to uphold integrity within law enforcement.
Motorists are strongly urged to resist the temptation to offer bribes, as the police are prepared to take immediate action against anyone caught engaging in this illegal activity.
To facilitate transparency and encourage reporting of such crimes, the public can contact the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631, message via WhatsApp on 0712 800 197, or approach any nearest police station.
