The High Court is scheduled to render a final judgment today regarding Neville Mutsvangwa, the son of Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa, who faces charges of illegal dealing in foreign currency and money laundering.
Neville, along with his co-accused Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana, will be subject to the court’s decision, which follows a submission made by his lawyer, Josephine Sande, before High Court judge Justice Esther Maremba last Thursday.
Sande argued that Neville, who had been denied bail by the magistrate court, is a suitable candidate for bail. She contended that the mere possession of Visa cards, for which Neville stands accused, does not constitute illegal activity nor serve as evidence of involvement in cash dealings or money laundering. Sande emphasised that bank cards are the property of the issuing bank, which retains the authority to disclose transaction details.
“The accused is not engaged in cash transactions nor has he engaged in money laundering outside the jurisdiction. He possesses funds that are utilized for purchasing goods for resale within the country,” Sande asserted.
Neville Mutsvangwa, also the son of Women’s Affairs Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, was apprehended following a police raid on his Mt Pleasant residence last week.
