A distressing incident unfolded at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) when a 22-year-old student, Panashe Mazhazhate, found himself facing charges of rape after allegedly engaging in non-consensual sexual acts with a fellow student.
Last week, Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa granted Mazhazhate bail amounting to US$100 and remanded him out of custody until November 30. The accused student now awaits further legal proceedings.
According to the prosecution led byMarehwanazvo Gofa, the alleged incidents occurred at the UZ’s NC1 hostel in October of this year.
It is claimed that Mazhazhate engaged in sexual intercourse with the complainant on two separate occasions within the same month, without her consent. The complainant subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to Mazhazhate’s subsequent arrest.
