The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched a manhunt for three men and three girls who escaped from the hands of the police roadblock where they had been stopped while driving a suspected stolen vehicle.
The suspects are on the run and the police are investigating the issue while the vehicle was impounded.
Malvin Ronald Nyoni (22) from Chief Nekatambe area in Hwange was driving a Honda Fit suspected to have been stolen, with two men and the three juveniles on board when they were stopped by police in Kamativi along the Cross Dete-Binga road.
It is suspected that the six were going on a joy ride in a stolen vehicle.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said Sergeants; Tapiwa Muwodzi, Tongesai Mashinge, Evans Ncube and Constable Fannie Mhlanga were manning a police roadblock near Kamativi during the Easter Holidays when they signalled the Honda Fit driver to stop.
Nyoni allegedly failed to produce a driver’s licence or registration documents for the vehicle prompting police to probe further.
In the process, Nyoni who was outside the vehicle after disembarking to talk to the police, allegedly jumped into the car and turned on the ignition using a screwdriver and drove off at high speed.
The five occupants were still in the vehicle.
The police chased the suspects using a well-wisher`s vehicle that was parked at the roadblock and c@ught up with the suspects.
Seeing that they had been cornered, Nyoni stopped the car and together with his alleged accomplices they bolted out and fled leaving the car behind.
The vehicle was impounded and taken to Kamativi police station while the suspects are still on the run.
Investigations are still pending.
