Veteran Zimbabwean-born South African actor Luthuli Dlamini, once celebrated for his role in the hit series Generations, is facing an incredibly difficult chapter in his life.
Reports have surfaced that he is currently homeless, struggling to secure acting gigs to support himself.
The South African entertainment industry can be merciless; actors often rise and fall based on their latest projects, and the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated financial difficulties for many in the field.
Luthuli is among those who have found themselves in dire straits, highlighting the pervasive issue of job insecurity among artists today.
Recently, entertainment publication ZiMoja revealed that Dlamini is living in a drug den in Randburg, Johannesburg. A close source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, shared that he has been residing there for some time.

“All the neighbors recognize him, but no one judges his situation; it can happen to anyone. He lives there with a group of guys, and they respect him,” the source explained.
Earlier this year, The South African reported that Luthuli was jobless and had unresolved financial disputes, specifically with a producer of the drama series Empty Love.
He was allegedly owed R150k for his work on the production, which was meant to last one month but extended to three. Many cast members left the project due to similar payment issues, while Luthuli adamantly insisted on receiving the money owed to him—prompting the producer to engage in disputes over his continued stay at their property.
The former actor, who once captivated audiences with his American-like accent and formidable talent, now stands as a stark reminder of the volatility faced by many artists in the industry. As Luthuli grapples with his situation, it serves as a call to action for the industry to offer better support and stability for its creators.
