The Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) has launched a comprehensive countrywide operation targeting all mushikashika (private taxis) and commuter omnibuses.
This joint effort, conducted in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), aims to restore order and safety on Zimbabwe’s roads.
The operation is part of VID’s ongoing efforts to regulate public transport and reduce chaos on the country’s roads.
Minister Felix Mhona emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and bringing sanity to the roads.
He urged all public transport operators to comply with relevant regulations and guidelines to avoid any inconveniences.
The operation will cover all regions, targeting both urban and rural areas, and will involve extensive inspections of vehicles to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.
Offenders will face penalties, fines, or even vehicle confiscation for non-compliance. The public is urged to support this initiative by reporting any incidents of non-compliance or reckless driving to the authorities.
The collaboration between VID, ZRP, and TSCZ demonstrates the government’s commitment to road safety and discipline.
This operation is a significant step towards achieving a safer and more orderly public transport system in Zimbabwe. By working together, the authorities aim to create a safer and more disciplined road culture, ultimately saving lives and preventing accidents.
