A man was arrested for trying to buy two cars with a st0len identity after quick actions by dealership staff and police thwarted the attempt.
On August 10, 2024, around 12:20 p.m., Memphis Police responded to a fraud report at Gossett Kia, 1900 Covington Pike.
William Hayes, 63, attempted to purchase two Kia Telluride SUVs using a fake Tennessee driver’s license of a deceased person.
Despite his confidence during the transaction, Hayes was arrested by waiting officers right after receiving the keys.

The cars, worth $158,885, were recovered.
Hayes faces forgery charges with a $50,000 bond and potential charges for theft. The Memphis Police Department warns about the serious consequences of such fraudulent actions.
