Nigel disclosed that he was defrauded of $13,000 that was in his Ecocash account, despite using this same account for transactions unrelated to Ruth’s funds, including purchasing cars.
This is after Ruth, who had studied Business Management at the University of Zimbabwe, fell ill shortly after completing her studies and was later diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
Her family reported that she had managed to raise $4,500 since June of the previous year.

Following this, generous Zimbabweans donated approximately $70,000 to support her treatment.
However, it was recently revealed that some of these funds were allegedly misused, with accusations that they were squandered by various individuals, including family members, and that her treatment was intentionally delayed.
Recently, Ecocash agent Tendai Chibwe was brought to court on charges of stealing $13,000 that had been donated for Ruth’s surgery.
It is alleged that Chibwe deceived Nigel Makono, Ruth’s uncle, who had received the funds in his personal Ecocash account. Reports claim that Chibwe only provided Makono with $1,100 out of the $13,000 that was deposited.
