The MK Party, led by Jacob Zuma, has stated that they are unaffected by his absence from parliamentary proceedings.
The Constitutional Court’s decision to bar Zuma from participating in the upcoming general election due to his 15-month prison sentence for contempt of court was addressed by the party.
Zuma’s conviction in 2021, stemming from his refusal to testify at the State Capture Commission, was cited, with the resulting July 2021 unrest incurring an estimated R50 billion economic loss.
Zwane, a party spokesperson, emphasized the MK Party’s pursuit of a two-thirds majority in response to the court’s ruling, alleging institutional capture within democracy and a lack of support for Zuma’s rights and those of the MK and South African populace at large to elect representatives freely.
