Former Deputy Minister of Justice & Legal Affairs in Zimbabwe during the Government of National Unity (GNU) Obert Chaurura Gutu urged Zimbabweans to defend and support country’s new currency (ZiG).
In a twitter post extracted by Newsreportzim.com, the corporate lawyer said,
“When some of us publicly & vociferously defend the ZiG, it’s not because we’re pushing a political agenda.”
“No! It’s simply because we’re patriots who are keen on having a robust, stable & resilient national currency that will spur socio-economic development for the benefit of the majority of Zimbabweans. That’s all.”
” We’re not paid propagandists as some people on this platform believe.”
“We don’t have to be paid by anyone in order for us to defend & support the ZiG.”
“We’re not mercenaries & we have never been mercenaries. Whatever we do & whatever decisions that we make (including political decisions), are motivated by principle, reason & conviction.”
“Speaking entirely for myself, my political beliefs are an open book. I have got absolutely nothing to hide.”
” I’m a man of conviction & principle. I’m very slow in making critical decisions but when I eventually decide, that’s it! I will stand by my decision come rain, thunder or sunshine.”
“A decision that’s well-thought out & grounded on conviction & principle is a sound & correct decision that one can never & indeed, should never be ashamed of.”
” I hold no position in any political party. I’m just an ordinary citizen but believe you me, I will always be true to myself & publicly & relentlessly propagate what I believe in. It is what it is.”
” Fundamentally, that’s me. What you see is what you get & what you get is what you see.”
“That said, I remain convinced that the ZiG will surprise naysayers & doubting Thomases.”
“The ZiG is going to stand the test of time & usher in a refreshing new era in the banking & financial history of our great nation, Zimbabwe.”
His remarks came after most of Zimbabweans showed that they have no confidence in the new introduced currency by country’s Central Bank. The Central Bank introduced the new currency and place some measures to back ZiG from manipulators.
