A disturbing incident unfolded in Penhalonga, Manicaland, when a 23-year-old woman, Mouldy Chinhengo Takaidza, allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man, Praymore Masuka, over an unpaid debt. Takaidza has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
According to police, the incident occurred on May 13 at around 7 pm at Penhalonga shops. Masuka approached Takaidza, demanding repayment of a debt. Takaidza claimed she didn’t have the money, but Masuka’s persistence angered her. In a fit of rage, Takaidza picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Masuka once on the left side of the chest.
After the stabbing, Takaidza fled the scene and reported to the police that Masuka had attacked her, prompting her to retaliate in self-defense. However, an investigation revealed that Takaidza’s account was false, and she was subsequently arrested.
Masuka was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare, where he remains admitted, fighting for his life. The police noted that Masuka had a deep cut on the left side of his chest and no signs of struggle.
Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed Takaidza’s arrest, saying the matter was upgraded from assault to attempted murder due to Masuka’s serious condition. The knife used in the attack has not been recovered.
Takaidza’s arrest brings hope that justice will be served. But the incident raises questions about the consequences of unpaid debts and the importance of conflict resolution.
